Five Have A Wonderful Time |
Josephine 'Jo' is a character in The Famous Five series. She is a tomboy, like George, but wears a skirt to prove that she is a girl. She is wild and a ragamuffin. In Five Have A Wonderful Time, in turns out she is the niece of Alfredo the fire-eater. She makes her first appearance in Five Fall Into Adventure, where she is seen spitting fruit stones. She and Dick have a spitting contest, Jo wins. Her final appearance was in Five Have Plenty of Fun. She appeared in 3 stories overall.
In Five Fall into Adventure, Jo is detested by George, while she has a strong affinity with Dick. Despite George's hatred of her, Jo climbs the ivy to a castle attic to rescue George from the madman Red Tower in Five Fall into adventure. She says she was doing it for Dick.
She's a little toughie, as demonstrated in an all-in brawl with Dick and later Julian - she scratches and bites. At the end of Fall into Adventure, she goes to live with a friend of Joan's - as the police inspector says, she had a lot of good in her and deserved a second chance at life.
